I was just as amazed with this information as you probably are. For many of my years with horses, I believed, "My horse's hooves are the way they are, for better or for worse." Luckily, I finally questioned this tenet. I learned from hoofcare providers, scientists, and my own personal experience, that hooves are *dynamic* - that is, they are changing all the time!  And luckily, Nature designed our equine friends with the capacity to heal damage in their feet and regain soundness if given the chance.  

Hooves respond to the environment, diet, and trims &/or shoes. Under some conditions, they can become weak and deformed. But under other conditions, they can gain strength and perfect form. Weak or deformed hooves may develop an obvious unsoudness in the feet, and often they may translate pain or imbalance to the horse's entire body. If a horse's performance is suffering or if  the horse seems "not quite right", the hooves are frequently the culprit. 

In my several years as a hoofcare provider, I have had the good fortune of being involved with a number of horses and owners to heal the root cause of a health problem. Improving the hooves makes a bigger impact on the whole of the horse than anything else I have witnessed. I am happy to help you with this process by trimming your horse to correct parameters for her/his unique hooves and situation.
